Employment with School District 73

2008- Current

Working as a Certified Educational Assistant with SD73 for 15 years has given me a strong foundation in inclusive education. I have supported students with diverse abilities in both district resource rooms and one-on-one settings, helping them build confidence and meet learning goals. These experiences taught me the importance of differentiation, patience, and student-centered planning. Collaborating with teachers and specialists has strengthened my ability to adapt and co-teach effectively. This role shaped my belief that all students can succeed when given the right supports, and it continues to influence how I approach teaching, assessment, and classroom relationships.

Professional Training and Safety

My long-term work with SD73 allowed me to complete essential training in Crisis Intervention Training, CPR and seizure management. These certifications have helped me respond to emergencies, build trust with vulnerable students, and maintain a calm, structured classroom environment. I have learned how important emotional safety is for learning, especially for students with trauma backgrounds or behavioral challenges. This training, combined with real-life experience, has taught me to recognize triggers, de-escalate situations, and communicate effectively with students and families. These skills are invaluable to my future role as a teacher and align closely with BC’s emphasis on student well-being.

Travel Experience

Global Perspectives on Learning

Travelling to England, Greece, Dubai and Thailand has expanded my understanding of global perspectives, history, and cultural insight which allows me to bring into my teaching. Visiting historical sites, engaging with different languages, and observing diverse education systems gave me a broader deeper appreciation for multiculturalism. In Thailand, I witnessed classroom focuses on community and care; in Dubai , I saw innovation blended with tradition. These experiences strengthened my belief in inclusive, culturally responsive teaching. They also helped me understand the importance of belonging and representation in the classroom by giving me core values I now carry into my practice as a BC teacher candidate.
